Spurs chase Brazilian winger Savinho for his Girona‑born pace
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to plug a lack of width and directness in their attack by targeting 22‑year‑old Brazilian winger Savinho, who despite a modest Premier League return has impressed with his pace and ball‑carrying. The Manchester City player signed a contract extension in October to 2031 and has logged 84 appearances, seven goals and 13 assists for the Etihad.
Girona breakthrough proves his worth
Savinho arrived at Manchester City from sister club Troyes for a £30.8 million fee in 2024. The Brazilian signed a contract extension in October to 2031 and spent the 2023‑24 season on loan at Girona.
During his loan, he featured in 37 La Liga matches, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists. Girona’s campaign culminated in a historic Champions League qualification, their first ever.
Statistically, Savinho topped La Liga in successful take‑ons (104) and progressive carries (181), while also leading in goal‑creating actions (25) and expected assists (9.9). He was second‑best for passes into the penalty area and for progressive carrying distance.
Most of his impact came from the left flank, where he played 27 games, netting five times and delivering six assists. He also operated centrally and on the right, demonstrating versatility across the attacking line.
De Zerbi’s style matches Spurs needs
De Zerbi’s philosophy of drawing opponents forward before exploiting the space aligns with Savinho’s skill set. His acceleration and willingness to take on defenders create one‑on‑one scenarios that De Zerbi values.
From the left, Savinho can maintain width and attack the byline; from the right, he can cut inside onto his stronger left foot to combine with teammates. This blend of width and inside movement promises a more direct route through compact defences for Tottenham.
Despite only two Premier League goals in two seasons at the Etihad, Tottenham are prepared to invest heavily, banking on his pace, ball‑carrying and chance‑creation abilities. At 22, the club believes his Girona form justifies the substantial outlay.
