Spitting accusation worsens tension between Ireland and Israel
In the stadium locker room, at halftime of a tense match, the silence was broken when an Israeli player allegedly spat on the Irish fitness coach. The incident, reported by the official Damien Doyle, immediately fueled the already heated controversy between the two national teams.
Press conference interrupted and request to halt the confrontations
After a lackluster encounter in an extremely tense context, the press conference was interrupted when the Irish manager, described as the Irish manager, reiterated his request to no longer face Israel after the second confrontation of the cease‑fire.
According to the Irish Times, Damien Doyle, head of the Irish national team's fitness preparation, claimed he was spat on by an Israeli player upon returning to the locker room at halftime.
The coaches of both camps refused to comment on the incident at the conference, although Heimir Hallgrímsson, Ireland's coach, confirmed the accusation and mentioned a possible disciplinary procedure, while noting that he had not witnessed the incident himself.
Hallgrímsson nevertheless highlighted his players' composure, stating: “I felt that they were trying to intimidate us from the kickoff, so I want to congratulate the players for having kept their cool. It could have been a match marked by an avalanche of yellow and red cards.”
