Spanish top‑flight side Getafe lures ex‑BVB star Jadon Sancho with mini salary

A commitment from former BVB star Jadon Sancho at FC Getafe is apparently taking increasingly concrete shape. The Spanish top‑flight club has presented the Englishman with an official contract offer that would bind him until the end of the season; the modest salary is around €12,000 per week, roughly one twenty‑fifth of his previous earnings at Manchester United.

According to the Telegraph, Sancho earned just under €300,000 per week at Manchester United, where his contract expired at the end of June. The difference of roughly €288,000 highlights the drastic financial concessions the Englishman appears willing to accept.

Getafe has been seen for weeks as the most likely destination for the 25‑year‑old attacking midfielder, after several rumours about a possible comeback in Spain circulated. The official offer confirms that the club’s interest goes beyond mere speculation.

Coaching uncertainty threatens deal

A second decisive factor is the future of coach José Bordalás. After an unsatisfactory start to the season with only nine points from the first nine LaLiga matches, the 62‑year‑old coach is no longer beyond question, and his possible departure could jeopardise Sancho’s commitment.

The club currently sits in 16th place and has managed only one win in the last ten games, which fuels the discussion about Bordalás’s future even further. Should he be dismissed, the new coach would have to decide whether Sancho fits into his system.

Sancho’s turbulent recent career

Since his departure from Dortmund in 2021, Sancho has experienced hardly any stable periods. United paid a €85 million transfer fee at the time, but the high expectations at Old Trafford were never met.

In the second half of the 2023/24 season he returned to Dortmund on a six‑month loan and delivered convincing performances. Afterwards, he was loaned within the Premier League to Chelsea and Aston Villa over the past two seasons, yet failed to gain new momentum. Since the expiry of the last season, Sancho has been without a club, and a possible return to the BVB, which was discussed for a time, ultimately fell through.
