South American wonderkid joins Man United after September pact

Eighteen‑year‑old Cristian Orozco has signed for Man United, the South American wonderkid joining the Red Devils from Fortaleza CEIF in his native Colombia after a deal first agreed in September, United confirmed via Getty as the teenager arrived at Old Trafford having turned 18 last month.

Orozco arrives from Fortaleza CEIF, a Colombian side where he featured five times for the first team last season and also played for the club’s under‑21s earlier in the campaign.

Internationally, the Colombian midfielder has represented his country up to the under‑17 level, captaining the side at the U‑17 World Cup in Qatar and helping the squad reach the South American U‑17 Championship final, where they lost to Brazil on penalties.

United announced the signing as part of its summer recruitment drive, marking Michael Carrick’s sixth addition of the window after prospects Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson, and adding Orozco to a cohort of young talents expected to develop within the club’s youth structure.

The first‑team squad has also been reinforced by arrivals such as Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow, signings that complement United’s return to the Champions League after a third‑place finish last term.

Orozco becomes the Red Devils’ third Colombian player, following Radamel Falcao’s loan spell in 2014/15 and Mateo Mejia’s recent under‑21 involvement, underscoring United’s ongoing focus on South American talent highlighted previously by Diego Leon’s delayed move from Cerro Porteno.

Having turned 18 last month, the teenager will initially train with the academy and has already made an under‑21 appearance against Altrincham last week, indicating United’s plan to integrate him gradually into the youth set‑up.

For the Colombian youngster, the move offers a pathway to develop at one of the world’s most prominent clubs, while United adds a promising South American prospect to its pipeline of future first‑team players.
