Slovenian match-winner Ndoye lets Switzerland win after trailing
As the match‑winner against Slovenia, Dan Ndoye scored the 2‑1 to win the Swiss national team, after the side fell behind early. The 25‑year‑old Nottingham striker again displayed his attacking power and secured the triumph in the Nations League duel.
Offensive lifeline of the national team
Ndoye has always been eager to play and has now become a regular source of goals. Since June 2025 he has scored ten goals for the national team, a total of eleven strikes and seven assists in 40 internationals. Previously he linked up with Vanja Drkusic before being pushed forward into the attack over the wing.
Against Scotland he provided the assists for both goals on Tuesday, and against Slovenia he placed his foot between ball and opponent to score the 2‑1. After the match, three weeks before his 26th birthday, he said in the mixed zone: “We immediately refocused on the essentials, tried to apply pressure. We were patient and seized our chances at the right moment.”
Yakin sees Ndoye as a workhorse
Coach Murat Yakin has made Ndoye his offensive lifeline and emphasizes that he and Johan Manzambi have worked a lot in both directions. “Dan sprints a lot, does a lot of work in attack as well as in defence. He has done it excellently,” Yakin said. For the upcoming Nations League final against North Macedonia he is considering resting two to three players – Ndoye is clearly among them.
Earlier, as a young Basel talent, Ndoye was considered spectacular but often wasteful of chances. Today, as a Premier League player, he brings the necessary seriousness to the side, which has handled the favourite role better since the World Cup qualification.
His goals against Argentina, Algeria, Australia, Jordan and Germany underline his impact. “We try to show every day and in every match that we belong among the best,” Ndoye emphasizes, seeing his role as key to the balance between joy of play and success.
