Six weeks of frantic deals push Liverpool to loan Hungarian keeper

Six weeks of frantic activity have forced Liverpool to arrange a season‑long loan for Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi to Austrian side TSV Hartberg, as the club rebuilds its squad ahead of the 2026‑27 campaign and seeks depth after a disappointing season.

The loan will see Armin Pecsi join TSV Hartberg for the entire 2026‑27 season. Ian Doyle confirmed on his X account that the Hungarian keeper is close to finalising the deal. The move provides Pecsi with regular senior football in Austria.

Liverpool’s under‑performance under manager Arne Slot exposed a quality gap that required decisive action at Anfield. Although the side secured Champions League qualification, the campaign was described as one of the worst recent under Slot. The board publicly admitted that a lot of work was needed on the team.

Key departures have accelerated the rebuild, with centre‑back Ibrahima Konaté confirmed early and Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson also set to leave. These three players formed the spine of the side, making their replacement the primary driver behind every negotiation.

Pecsi, who has trained alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, never featured for the first team under Slot but impressed with the Under‑21s. His progress sparked speculation that he could become Liverpool’s number two goalkeeper.

The club’s goalkeeping department remains strong, with Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili described as “fairly strong keepers” and Mamardashvili labelled an “outstanding” player by Stephen Warnock. After Alisson’s Juventus move fell through and interest in a Mamardashvili loan faded, Liverpool signalled Alisson will be first‑choice and Mamardashvili will stay.

Reliance on Alisson’s fitness to keep Mamardashvili out of the net has been described as “rather worrying”, underscoring the importance of depth. Andoni Iraola has expressed a desire to keep both keepers at Anfield rather than replace them, highlighting the club’s cautious approach.

A betting promotion accompanying the news urges fans to bet NOW, reflecting the commercial backdrop to the football developments.

Pecsi’s loan illustrates the broader market trend of top clubs using loan spells to develop young talent amid extensive transfer activity.
