Six‑figure compensation looms as Real Madrid chase United’s JJ Gabriel

A six‑figure training compensation could be due to Manchester United if 15‑year‑old JJ Gabriel departs, and Real Madrid are already negotiating his transfer. The La Liga giants admired Gabriel’s display in United’s 5‑0 Youth League win over Sabah last week, Saint‑Germain, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Academy record and ambitions

Gabriel entered Manchester United’s academy at eleven and has quickly become a standout prospect. He has netted 29 goals in 32 appearances for the club’s Under‑18 side, showcasing his goal‑scoring instinct. The left winger’s performances have drawn attention across Europe.

The teenager formally submitted a de‑registration letter, signalling his desire to leave United. While the Red Devils hope to retain him, the Premier League side may be unable to block a move once he turns sixteen. United would only receive training compensation, estimated at a six‑figure sum.

Gabriel declined to train ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup tie with Brighton & Hove Albion, where a first‑team debut was possible. He reportedly feels frustrated by limited senior opportunities this season. He featured for just eight minutes in United’s pre‑season friendly against Atletico Madrid and was an unused substitute versus Leeds United.

New signing Tynan Thompson was given 45 minutes of game time in the same friendly, highlighting United’s willingness to rotate younger players. Madrid’s pursuit of Gabriel adds another high‑profile target to a summer market already featuring interest from Paris Saint‑Germain, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
