Siemen Voet, the Belgian defender who transforms FC Saarbrücken
While Siemen Voet's name remains almost unknown in the south of the country, he is already making headlines in Germany: at 26, the Belgian centre‑back has scored four goals in seven matches in the 3. Bundesliga, becoming his team's top scorer.
An unexpected record for a defender
With those four strikes, Voet is the most prolific defender in the league and the top scorer for FC Saarbrücken. He has therefore outscored every forward at his club in just seven games. This tally is exceptional for a player in his position.
Trained at Club Brugge, Voet first looked for his place elsewhere, passing through KV Mechelen, PEC Zwolle and Fortuna Sittard. He then joined Slovan Bratislava, where he played in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid. After a brief spell at 1860 Munich, he signed with FC Saarbrücken, benefiting from the stability offered by the Saarland region.
The decisive goal that sealed the win
In the latest FC Saarbrücken match, Voet delivered the win in the dying seconds against Sonnenhof Großaspach, a goal that sent the stadium into a frenzy. “Scoring in the last second and seeing the stadium explode is every player’s childhood dream,” he said, smiling after the celebration.
In an interview with liga3‑online, he added: “I have never scored as many goals in my career as I have at FCS.” This statement underlines the immediate impact he has had since his arrival.
The air of the Saarland does him good, he admits, after years of searching for stability. He has even received more cards for his celebrations than for his defensive interventions, proof of his enthusiasm on the pitch.
“Become a fan of 1. FC Saarbrücken!” the club now urges, hoping that Voet’s rising profile will attract new supporters.
