Sesko out until new year with shin issue

In the quiet of Old Trafford’s medical suite, a therapist handed Manchester United’s staff a stark update: striker Benjamin Sesko will miss the rest of the season until the new year. The news arrives as the club languishes winless in eight Premier League games. It adds another layer to the mounting pressure on Michael Carrick.
Injury timeline confirmed
Sesko has made only six appearances across all competitions this season and has not featured since the September 13 defeat to Manchester City in the derby. A lingering shin issue has kept him out, and United have been working with a therapist to accelerate his recovery. GIVEMESPORT reports the club have now been told the striker will remain unavailable until the new year.
The Red Devils have secured just one victory in their opening eight league fixtures, leaving Carrick’s position hanging by a thread. He is set to lead the side at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea this weekend, a match that could determine his future. The board has hinted that another misstep may trigger decisive action.
Squad depth under scrutiny
United’s summer recruitment failed to provide senior cover for left‑back Luke Shaw, a problem compounded by winger Patrick Dorgu’s injury. Up front, the club also missed out on a proven striker, leaving reliance on Joshua Zirkzee, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Both Zirkzee and Cunha have struggled to find form in a one‑striker system.
When asked about Sesko’s condition about two weeks ago, Carrick said: "The original [injury last season] was the shin. It's not the exact [same] issue, it's a similar area, but it's not the exact same thing again, and we're kind of working through it, seeing how long the issue will be. Hoping it'll be soon, obviously, but right now it's not quite clear."
United now have clarity on the striker’s absence and must cope with Zirkzee, Cunha and Mbeumo until the January transfer window. Should Carrick be dismissed, former player and coach Howe is likely to emerge as a leading candidate.
