Scoring Gakpo and Szoboszlai, Liverpool beat Spurs in League Cup

Scoring Gakpo and Szoboszlai Liverpool took Liverpool to victory when they knocked out Tottenham Hotspur in the English League Cup; alongside an opening goal from Alexis Mac Allister the two forwards provided the goals, while Spurs are still searching for form despite their huge spending under Roberto De Zerbi.

Mac Allister opened the scoring with a beautiful shot into the top corner. In the second half Cody Gakpo extended the lead to 2‑0 with a net‑in‑the‑top‑corner placed shot. Dominik Szoboszlai completed the win with a phenomenal long‑range volley, after which Conor Gallagher headed a corner into the net.

For the Reds, Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong started in the lineup, while Ryan Gravenberch came off the bench. Virgil van Dijk was completely absent from the squad. Surprisingly, former Ajax loanee James McConnell was given a starting place by manager Andoni Iraola.

Spurs continue to struggle despite huge spending

In the Premier League, Spurs have not scored a goal after four matches and have collected only two points. The team also still has not found the right form, despite the hundreds of millions spent on the transfer market this summer.

There was unrest surrounding Richarlison; he was left out of the squad for the League Cup tie against Liverpool due to a conflict.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side is still not moving forward, despite the huge investments Spurs have made this summer.

On the same evening Arsenal won convincingly against Ipswich Town, and several other clubs also recorded victories in the League Cup.
