Schmid boosts promoted Frosinone after his move from Werder

On the dusty pitch of the Stadio Benito Stirpe, the crowd watched as Romano Schmid, fresh from Werder Bremen, already dominated the midfield in the third Serie A match. The 23‑year‑old Austrian, who moved to Frosinone Calcio in the summer, immediately showed his class and sent a clear signal for the promoted side.

Schmid left the Bremen club to restart his career in Italy. Since his debut he has firmly established himself in Serie A and is among the standout players of the surprising Frosinone team.

According to 90min, Schmid has been in the starting eleven in all five Serie A games so far. In those 365 of a possible 450 minutes he has already provided three assists.

Frosinone in sixth place and unbeaten

Frosinone sits in sixth place after a strong start to the season and has been unbeaten for four games. The promoted side benefits from Schmid’s consistent presence in the ten.

In Italy Schmid takes his preferred position as a playmaker, whereas in Bremen he was occasionally used on the flanks. There he was not always found in the central midfield.

His strongest performance to date came in the 2‑0 win over Como, where he set up both goals and thus contributed significantly to the victory.

Frosinone signed the Austrian in the summer for an initial €8.5 million; possible bonuses could raise the transfer fee to €10.5 million.

Werder Bremen also started the season well and collected seven points from the first four Bundesliga games.
