Salzburg’s Sieges leave them unsatisfied: not our Anspruch

Salzburg’s Bullen secured a 1‑0 victory in the Play‑off‑Hinspiel in Schweden, giving them a one‑goal lead into the Europa‑League, yet the club’s Anspruch was far from satisfied, declaring the Leistung must improve despite the Ergebnis of the Sieges overall in the competition.

Swedish first leg

In the Thursday match in southern Schweden, Tom Pettersson first struck the crossbar with a header after an hour and later deflected an own‑goal in stoppage time, keeping the score at 1‑0.

Karim Konate, who had earlier scored against Hartberg in the Bundesliga, delivered the decisive strike with a burst of energy, securing Salzburg’s Sieg.

Er zeigte sich enttäuscht von der eigenen Leistung.

Looking ahead to the return leg

Coach Danny Röhl characterised the win as a Last‑Minute‑Erfolgs and stressed that the Ergebnis alone was insufficient, stating, “Ergebnis ja, die Performance müssen wir verbessern.”

He offered an Einordnung of the match, noting the need for a stronger Pressingverhalten to control the game.

Röhl also highlighted that the tie is part of the Fußball‑Europa‑League and demands a higher standard.

Captain Nikolas Veratschnig criticised both himself and his teammates, saying, “Sicher sind wir glücklich, dass wir in allerletzter Sekunde noch das Tor gemacht haben. Aber mit der Performance sind wir nicht so zufrieden.”

He reiterated that the team’s Anspruch cannot be a late‑goal win and that they must steigern.

Er betonte, dass wir müssen konsequent besser werden.

Goalkeeper Christian Zawieschitzky, 19, observed that Salzburg often invited the opponent too often, noting, “Bei Ballverlusten hatten sie die Möglichkeit, sehr schnell unser Tor anzugreifen.”

He warned that the team has work to do before the home leg and praised the fun aspect of Fußball.

Im Training betont er, dass die Konzentration entscheidend ist.

Die Salzburger jubelten kurz nach dem Tor, yet the Bullen’s resolve to improve beyond the singular Ergebnis remains.

Salzburg will host the second leg in a week, aiming to cement their Europa‑League participation.

The club postponed the league duel with Rapid at the request of Vienna to better prepare for the European cup.

Röhl emphasized that in the Rückspiel they must fulfil their Aufgaben without trying to invent anything new, stating, “Das Ziel ist klar.”

Mjällby, after the upset in Schweden, now sits 22 points behind the table leader in the lower mid‑table of the Swedish league.

Their performance was organized but football‑lich limited,

Die Mannschaft zeigte Kampfgeist bis zum Schluss.

Overall, the Bullen’s Sieges provided a crucial Ergebnis, yet the club’s Anspruch remains to raise the Leistung.

As Röhl put it, “Wir müssen uns steigern,” a sentiment echoed throughout the squad as they look ahead to the decisive home match.
