Salford reinforce defence with Brendan Wiredu’s League Two switch

Defender Brendan Wiredu has completed a move from Plymouth Argyle to Salford City, taking the 26‑year‑old centre‑back into League Two. The transfer was finalized on 21 August 2026 after Wiredu spent the 2026‑27 season with Plymouth, where he made a single one‑minute League One appearance.

Salford, competing in League Two, will field Wiredu wearing the number four shirt, marking his fifth senior club. The club hopes his addition will strengthen a defence that has sought more experience at the back.

Wiredu’s spell at Plymouth offered limited game time; he recorded just one minute on the pitch in the 2026‑27 campaign and did not register a goal or assist.

From Fleetwood to Plymouth for €300,000

He arrived at Plymouth from Fleetwood in July 2025, a transfer valued at €300,000. Prior to that, Wiredu spent three seasons with Fleetwood after departing Colchester United in 2022.

Physical profile of the centre‑back

The London‑born defender stands 1.91 m tall, prefers his right foot and primarily operates as a centre‑back. The identifier Two.Wiredu appears in the transfer record.

Wiredu began his senior career with Charlton Athletic’s under‑23 side after progressing from the club’s under‑18s, and he also enjoyed loan spells at Bromley and Colchester United before establishing himself in the professional game.

He holds both English and Ghanaian nationality, reflecting his dual eligibility on the international stage.

Salford’s acquisition of Wiredu follows his brief appearance for Plymouth at the start of the new season, positioning him to contribute immediately as the club pursues its League Two objectives.
