Saint‑Etienne back Senegal keeper Ndiaye after late debut

Mamour Ndiaye made his first appearance for Saint‑Etienne on Saturday, coming on in the 88th minute against Rodez after goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur left injured, as the Verts secured a 2‑0 victory at Geoffroy‑Guichard. He entered the match with the team leading 2‑0 and became the youngest Senegalese keeper to feature for the club.

Une emotional debut

Une first appearance sparked joy for the 20‑year‑old. “Une émotion inoubliable,” Ndiaye wrote on his social media, adding “Ce n’est que le début. Allez les Verts !”.

Before arriving in France, Ndiaye trained at the Oslo Football Academy and was spotted by Sarpsborg at the end of 2023. He signed for the Norwegian side in 2024 and became the club’s first‑choice goalkeeper in 2025.

His performances earned him a place in the Senegal U20 squad, with which he won the UFOA‑A tournament and was voted the best goalkeeper of the competition. The triumph highlighted his potential on the international stage.

Patrick Vieira recently called Ndiaye up to the senior Senegal team, confirming his rising profile. The call‑up came after his impressive displays in Norway and his debut for Saint‑Etienne.

If Gautier Larsonneur remains unavailable, Ndiaye could start the next fixture against Red Star, giving him an early chance to cement his place. The club’s coaching staff praised his composure during the brief cameo.
