Sabbe recalls trash‑talk duel with KAA Gent, promises more fire

Sabbe says those matches are exactly why he became a footballer. In an interview with Het he stresses that such duels always carry something extra, especially when verbal battles arise.

Trash talk fuels rivalry

He recalls an earlier confrontation in Gent where he faced Archie Brown of KAA Gent. “He started trash‑talking like in the NBA that I couldn’t guard him or something,” Sabbe told the newspaper.

Brown eventually got past Sabbe, after which a teammate tackled Sabbe. The Gent player seized the moment to tease him again, saying, “Then he said I couldn’t do it alone.” Sabbe noted the incident added a personal touch while staying within sporting limits.

Later Sabbe took his revenge, engaging in a hard duel and striking the ball while pulling Brown along. The exchange sparked another bout of verbal sparring, and when Brown was taken off the pitch Sabbe replied, “Go sit on the bench, my friend and see you later.”

For Sabbe, trash talk is harmless and even desirable. “It’s all completely harmless. It belongs there, I think, as long as it stays within limits,” the Club player concluded.
