Ryotaro Ito leaves Sint-Truiden for Real Valladolid as side fight relegation
Japanese midfielder Ryotaro Ito, 29, has signed a one‑season contract with Spanish second‑division side Real Valladolid, ending his spell with Belgian club Sint-Truiden. The move was confirmed on 30 September 2026, after the former Sint-Truiden star became a free agent seeking a new challenge.
Sint-Truiden breakthrough
Ito dazzled for Sint-Truiden last season, contributing ten goals and five assists from midfield. His creative output was a key factor in the Limburg club’s successful campaign.
Having become a free agent, Ito pursued a move to English Championship side Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer. The transfer collapsed after he failed the medical examination.
In the meantime he returned to Japan, training with a local youth club to maintain his fitness. The stint allowed him to keep his condition while awaiting another opportunity.
Speculation grew about a possible return to Stayen, especially after the player was spotted near the stadium with his dog. Ito was in Belgium to rehabilitate an ankle injury and preserve his match sharpness.
Valladolid signing
Real Valladolid secured Ito’s services on a one‑year deal, hoping his creativity will aid a side currently 16th in the Segunda División, with eight points from twenty‑one matches. The Spanish club sees the Japanese midfielder as a valuable addition to their push for safety.
