Rumours of a dispute swirl around Dortmund defender Ramy Bensebaini

During the international break, 31-year‑old Ramy Bensebaini became the focus of a heated dispute after Algeria’s 2‑2 draw with Burundi, with reports suggesting he left the national team hotel early.

The speculation began after national coach Brahim Hemdani made a personnel decision, dropping Rayan Ait‑Nouri of Manchester City from the squad for disciplinary reasons. Media outlets then claimed Bensebaini had clashed with Hemdani and subsequently departed.

Gazette du Fennec refutes departure claim

The Gazette du Fennec issued a clear Rede, stating that Bensebaini remains with the Algerian national Team and has not abandoned the squad. This denial undermines the earlier narrative of a premature exit.

Further evidence came from Bensebaini’s own Instagram story, which showed him training in the gym alongside Leverkusen midfielder Ibrahim Maza. After the session he was seen in good spirits, walking back to the hotel with several teammates.

On the pitch, the match against Burundi proved unlucky for the defender. When the score was 0‑2, Bensebaini headed a high ball straight into the path of Jean Girumugisha, who capitalised and scored for the underdogs. Algeria later salvaged a draw.

Dortmund watches Bensebaini's form

Borussia Dortmund will be monitoring Bensebaini’s performances closely, especially after the renewed injury to Nico Schlotterbeck, which could increase the Algerian’s role at BVB.

Algeria’s final international fixture is a friendly against Niger, offering Bensebaini a chance to rewrite the narrative after the turbulent rumours.
