Ronaldo gets provisional suspension after abandoning camp in Copenhagen

The Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (FPF) has provisionally suspended Cristiano Ronaldo after opening a disciplinary procedure following his departure from the national team base in Copenhague ahead of Portugal’s Liga das Nações clash with Dinamarca last week, the federation confirmed on Saturday.

Age and departure from Copenhague

The 41‑year‑old striker left the camp in Copenhague before the Dinamarca game, citing a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus. His exit came hours before the scheduled kick‑off.

Ronaldo had been an unused substitute in the previous encounter with Noruega. He later claimed that Jorge Jesus had broken his word twice concerning the role he was promised in the squad.

According to the newspaper A Bola, the FPF confirmed that a disciplinary process had been opened. The federation said: “Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which he was subject until the start of the process, a non‑automatic preventive suspension was determined, and the process received an urgent character.”

Ronaldo issued an apology on Tuesday for not greeting the supporters after the Noruega match and for leaving his teammates. He added that he would remain available for selection once any sanction is served.

Reuters contacted the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol for comment but received no response.
