Ronaldo accuses the team chief of breaking his word and wants to return

In the training camp of the Portuguese national team, Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, stands alone on the pitch, waiting for the promised 30‑minute appearance against Norway – a promise that is never fulfilled. The superstar now accuses team coach Jorge Jesus of double breach of promise.

Ronaldo accuses of double breach of promise

In a lengthy statement, which international media and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano quote, the 41‑year‑old Ronaldo states that he is suing the team coach for double breach of promise. Despite the accusations, he emphasizes that he does not wish to retire permanently from the team of Portugal.

Ronaldo describes that after the World Cup he had a conversation with Jorge Jesus, in which the time together with the team was discussed. He stresses that he did not demand a fixed playing time, but only wanted to receive the promised 30‑minute appearance. The agreed time was crucial for him.

When the training started, Ronaldo warmed up in vain because the promised playing time was not granted to him. In a subsequent discussion with Jesus, a prepared statement was not read out, which Ronaldo interprets as another breach of promise and prompted him to leave the camp silently.

Jorge Jesus most recently hinted that a comeback for the superstar could be possible. Ronaldo, however, expects a suspension from the association because of his departure, but states: “If I am in good physical condition and score goals for my club, I will be available again after serving the sanction, to play and win with our national team.”
