Romano dazzles Cagliari and lures Serie A giants

In the hot stadium of Sardinia, Alessandro Romano, a young attacking midfielder, has already turned the spotlight onto Fabio Pisacane's Cagliari, which in five matchdays has collected four wins and one loss, positioning itself immediately behind the top three formed by Roma, Lazio and Inter.

The journey of a Swiss talent

Alessandro Romano, born in 2006, arrived at Cagliari from Roma in the summer. Born in Switzerland, this year he obtained an Italian passport, so the national team coach, Roberto Mancini, included him in the squad for the four matches of the Nations League.

“Clearly it wasn’t easy, because I had very good talks with head coach Yakin, Marinko Jurendic and Davide Callà,” Romano said, describing the choice to wear the blue shirt as a “heart” decision. He added that speaking honestly helps to find understanding and respect.

The youngster acknowledged the high level of football education he received in Switzerland, for which he is very grateful. This training contributed to the speed with which he adapted to Cagliari’s style of play.

His performances have already attracted the interest of major Italian clubs. He notes that Juventus, Inter and Milan are monitoring his future.

At the end of the season, Cagliari will exercise the buy‑back option to bring Romano back from Roma, making him fully part of the red‑and‑blue project. The Sardinian club sees him as a key element to consolidate the strong start to the league.
