Romaine Gandonou's free‑kick puts Benin in U20 World Cup goal race

FIFA has shortlisted Romaine Gandonou Bénin's free‑kick for the best‑goal award at the Coupe du monde féminine U20, after the tournament ended Sunday with Spain beating Corée du Nord in the final. The competition concluded with Spain lifting the trophy.

The tournament saw teams from across the globe compete, including the Asian side Corée du Nord. Following the final, FIFA released a shortlist of the most spectacular goals from the event.

Among the selections is a strike by 15‑year‑old Romaine Gandonou, the Beninese forward, who scored from a free‑kick taken from the edge of the penalty area during Benin's 1‑4 loss to Poland. The goal impressed observers and earned a place on the shortlist.
