Roma supporters face possible ban as Bologna clash looms in December

Roma supporters simply want to travel across Italy and beyond to back their team, yet the prospect of a ban looms over the upcoming away fixture against Bologna. On home soil the situation proves far more complicated, with authorities already suspending several away games because of a perceived risk of clashes.

More away matches have now been suspended because officials cite a “risk of clashes,” and a fresh ban could be imposed on Roma supporters for the Bologna trip. The Italian police authority, the Organismo di Monitoraggio e Sicurezza (OMNS), is reviewing the case carefully.

The fixture is set for 4 December, and after more than two months the first problems are emerging, Il Messaggero reports. The game will be played at the Dall’Ara stadium, the home of Roma.

On home soil, however, the situation is more complicated than expected. The OMNS is carefully evaluating the Bologna‑Roma case.

Clash risk with Serbian fans

The Bologna encounter will run simultaneously with the Virtus Bologna‑Partizan Belgrade clash, staged only a few kilometres away. OMNS fears that Serbian supporters of Partizan could come into conflict with travelling Roma fans. Because of this, the away section may be closed entirely.

It remains to be seen whether alternative arrangements will allow supporters to reach the Dall’Ara stadium. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have often thrived on vocal backing, yet they have demonstrated the ability to perform without it.

The contrast between supporters’ wish to travel and the precautionary bans underscores a growing tension between fan culture and public‑order concerns in Italian football, leaving the final decision pending. A final ruling is still some time away.
