Roma’s strategic boost: signing Greek defender Kostas Kourielakis

AS Roma have completed the permanent transfer of 20‑year‑old Greek defender Konstantinos Koulierakis from Wolfsburg, appointing him as the club’s second summer signing after Santiago Castro; the defender will wear the number 33 shirt for the Giallorossi and arrives with experience at PAOK, Wolfsburg and 22 Greek caps.

The official club statement read: “AS Roma is pleased to announce the arrival of Konstantinos Koulierakis from Wolfsburg,” confirming the definitive nature of the transfer. The move makes him the Giallorossi’s second summer signing after Santiago Castro.

Konstantinos Koulierakis is also known as Kostas Kourielakis, the name under which the club introduced him. Both names appear in the club’s announcement.

Koulierakis began his senior career at PAOK before moving to Wolfsburg. His spells at the Greek and German clubs gave him experience in both leagues.

He made his debut for the Greek senior national team at 18. To date he has earned 22 caps for Greece, highlighting his early international exposure.

Roma assigned him the number 33 jersey for the upcoming season. The club welcomed him with the message “Welcome Kostas!” signalling confidence in his role.

The permanent nature of the transfer means Roma have secured his services without a loan arrangement. The signing adds depth to the Giallorossi’s defensive options as the season approaches.
