Roma's €35m chase for Santiago Castro after Gasperini deal stalls
Roma have set a €35 million price on Argentine striker Santiago Castro, aiming to bring the Bologna forward to the Giallorossi before the summer transfer window closes, after their pursuit of Italian winger Gian Piero Gasperini stalled and intensified the club's search for attacking reinforcements.
Roma face a pressing need to reinforce their attack after the stalled pursuit of Gasperini, highlighting gaps in the squad's offensive options.
The difficulty in signing Gasperini forced the Giallorossi to redirect their transfer priorities, turning attention to Castro as a viable solution.
Sporting director Tony D’Amico accelerated talks to secure the Argentine striker this week, reflecting the urgency to address the identified attacking gap.
Santiago Castro, currently with Bologna, rose to the top of D’Amico’s internal ranking, overtaking Nicolò Tresoldi, signalling the director’s confidence in the Argentine forward’s potential impact.
In recent hours D’Amico reportedly made significant progress toward finalising the deal, underscoring Roma’s haste to bolster attacking options before the window closes.
According to Fabrizio Romano, after receiving Gasperini’s approval, the player known as “Torito” also gave his consent to join the Giallorossi project, indicating both parties are aligned on the transfer terms.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla confirmed that Roma and Bologna are negotiating an agreement valued at €35 million for Castro, adding credibility to the near‑finalised transaction, and the club now focuses on completing paperwork to fill the attacking void left by the unfulfilled Gasperini move.
