Roma’s €28m bid for Givairo Read rebuffed, negotiations linger

AS Roma have yet to finalize the signing of 20‑year‑old right‑back Givairo Read from Feyenoord, after their €28 million offer plus add‑ons and a proposed 10 percent cut of any future sale fee was rejected by the Dutch side, prompting both clubs to continue negotiations over the transfer.

The Giallorossi had hoped the €28 million proposal, which also included a 10 percent share of Read’s future sale, would be enough. and Sky Sport Italia both confirmed this evening that Feyenoord turned the bid down.

Feyenoord’s asking price remains €30 million, and clubs such as Nottingham Forest have also shown interest. Roma believe the fee can be met and are prepared to discuss commission and additional bonuses to raise the total.

Read has already signed personal terms with the Serie A side and is eager to join Gian Piero Gasperini’s team in the Champions League. The 20‑year‑old defender can operate on the right or left flank, offering tactical flexibility.

In his last season with Feyenoord, Read featured in 20 competitive matches, scoring two goals and providing three assists. The opening bid of €25 million was an improvement but still fell short of the Dutch club’s expectations.

A recent UEFA Europa League match on 6 NOVEMBER in STUTTGART, GERMANY, saw Read under pressure from Josha Vagnoman of VfB Stuttgart. The same player was also involved in a February 15 clash in Rotterdam, Netherlands, during the 2023/24 knockout round play‑offs, where AS Roma faced Feyenoord. This highlights the defender’s experience on the European stage.

Roma have signalled they will not abandon the pursuit, continuing talks that may include higher commissions and performance‑related bonuses. For Feyenoord, holding out could secure the €30 million target, while a deal would see Read move to Italy and bolster the Giallorossi’s defensive options.
