Roma lock up Portuguese prodigy with €120m release clause
AS Roma have secured the signing of 19‑year‑old Portuguese midfielder Rodrigo Mora from FC Porto, with the transfer confirmed on Wednesday morning as white smoke rose above the Stadio Olimpico. The deal includes a €120 million release clause and a €25 million fee to Porto, positioning the youngster as a potential midfield reinforcement for the Serie A‑club.
€120 million release clause
Het contract contains a staggering €120 million escape clause, a figure that underlines the club’s belief in the Portugese super talent. Francesco Farioli, the coach who oversaw Mora at Porto, will see the clause honoured should a major suitor emerge. The clause sits alongside a €25 million payment that Porto will receive for the 19‑year‑old.
Mora’s record and role
Rodrigo Mora arrived at Roma after amassing eighty official appearances for FC Porto, during which he netted sixteen goals and supplied six assists. He will wear the number 86 shirt, the same number he wore at Porto, and is expected to add creativity to the midfield. The Portugese midfielder’s experience includes a quarter‑hour cameo this season under Farioli before his departure.
Devyne Rensch also remains under contract with AS Roma, highlighting the club’s blend of youth and experience in its squad. Both players now share the same Serie A‑club environment, with Rensch already established in the defensive line.
The Roma campaign kicks off on 24 August in the Italian capital, where the Serie A‑club will face Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico. That fixture offers Mora the earliest opportunity to make his debut for the Italianske side.
As the new signing settles in, the presence of a €120 million release clause may attract interest from other top European teams, but Roma appear intent on integrating the Portugese talent into their midfield plans for the season ahead.
