Roma keep January hopes alive for Dutch defender Oosterwolde despite injury
Roma have confirmed they remain interested in signing Dutch full‑back Jayden Oosterwolde in the January window, despite the 2001‑born defender currently nursing a torn muscle that will keep him out for around three months. The Fenerbahçe player even underwent a medical this summer, signalling his readiness to wear the Giallorossi jersey.
Medical check reveals serious injury
During the summer medical, Roma discovered the severity of Oosterwolde's muscle tear, prompting doubts over his immediate availability. The injury requires surgery and a rehabilitation period of approximately three months, according to club reports.
Club director Tony D'Amico, as reported by Corriere dello Sport, has not removed the Dutchman's name from Roma's target list, opting to monitor his recovery while he continues to feature for Fenerbahçe.
Potential move remains on the agenda
Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has already given his approval for the former Parma player’s arrival, and both he and D'Amico continue to track Oosterwolde’s progress. The defender’s last appearance for Fenerbahçe was on 5 August, in a Champions League qualifier against Sturm Graz.
Before that match, Oosterwolde travelled to Istanbul, greeted several Roma players and met Gasperini and his staff, indicating that the relationship between the clubs remains intact despite the failed summer deal.
Should Oosterwolde recover as expected, Roma could revive the transfer talks in January, turning the lingering interest into a concrete negotiation once his fitness is restored.
