Roma interest fades as Ruggeri stays at Atletico Madrid
Agent Tullio Tinti told Sky Sport that despite growing interest from clubs, Matteo Ruggeri wants to stay at Atletico Madrid, and the reported pursuit by Roma appears to be fading. The defender’s agent emphasized the player’s desire to continue in the Spanish capital, suggesting a transfer is unlikely in the near term.
Tinti explained that Ruggeri faces a clash between the mounting attention from clubs and his own wish to remain at Atletico Madrid. The central question, he said, is whether the reported interest from Roma and other suitors will translate into an actual move.
"He had an extraordinary season with Atletico Madrid," Tinti said, adding that "to play in a place like Madrid, you need a big personality." These remarks underline the defender’s impact in the Spanish capital.
Michael Fabbri to referee Serie A showdown as Roma chase joint lead
Tinti noted that after such a season, interest is normal, citing Roma and Fiorentina as clubs that have been after Ruggeri. He also mentioned that other Italian and foreign clubs are monitoring the defender.
He dismissed any transfer possibility, stating that Atletico and the player intend to continue together. Tinti recalled that Nottingham Forest inquired about Ruggeri in January, but he was not on the market at that time.
He confirmed that Ruggeri remains unavailable on the market now. Thus, while interest from Roma, Fiorentina and other clubs persists, Ruggeri’s immediate future appears set at Atletico Madrid, leaving the speculation unresolved and highlighting interest from both Serie A sides and clubs outside Italy.
