Roma inch closer to signing Leo Balerdi as loan option
Leo Balerdi is on the brink of joining Roma, with the Italian side poised to finalise a loan deal that includes an obligatory purchase clause. The 27‑year‑old centre‑back missed the Mundial 2026 with the Selección Argentina after an untimely injury, paving the way for Marcos Senesi.
His injury truncated the dream of representing Argentina at the World Cup, allowing defender Marcos Senesi to step into the squad for the upcoming tournament.
The looming closure of the European summer transfer window adds urgency, offering a final opportunity for the move before the market shuts.
Roma move close to completion
Roma, coached by Gian Piero Gasperini, have placed the Argentine defender on their radar and are negotiating with Olympique de Marsella to secure his services.
According to Doble Amarilla, the club in Italia and Boca have reached agreement on Leonardo Balerdi, but a final accord with the French side remains pending; all parties appear ready to conclude a loan with an obligatory purchase clause triggered by specific objectives.
If the deal goes through, Balerdi – who arrived at Marseille in 2020 – would join a Roma squad already featuring fellow Argentines Paulo Dybala, Nahuel Molina, Matías Soulé and Santiago Castro.
