Roma hands Salah-Eddine to Panathinaikos, medical today
Anass Salah-Eddine, Dutch full‑back born in 2002, is about to leave Roma to join Panathinaikos; the 24‑year‑old is expected to travel to Greece today for medical examinations and sign a loan deal with an option to buy.
Details of the deal
According to Sky Sport, the two clubs have reached a loan agreement with a buy‑back clause, but without any obligation to make a permanent purchase, contrary to what was initially assumed.
The transfer takes place more than a week after the summer window closed, but the Greek market stays open longer, allowing the Giallorossi to further trim the squad of players not included in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans.
The 24‑year‑old, born in 2002, is the first Italian to gain experience in Greek football; he will arrive in Athens today to undergo the medical examinations required by the new club.
Gasperini has already indicated his primary choices for the flanks, favouring Lulli, Wesley, Molina and Rensch, thus leaving Salah‑Eddine out of the capital team’s sporting project.
Roma had bought Salah‑Eddine for €8.5 million from FC Twente in February 2025, but the defender recorded only three appearances and one assist, showing a limited impact.
The last season was spent on loan in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, where he continued to seek playing continuity before completing the move to Greece.
