Roma fill defensive void with €18m Oosterwolde loan
AS Roma need to reinforce their back line after injuries and a lack of depth, and 25‑year‑old defender Jayden Oosterwolde matches the profile that Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini has been searching for. The Dutch‑born centre‑back spent three and a half seasons with Fenerbahçe, offering Serie A experience and versatility.
Joost Blaauwho of VIAS reported earlier this week that AS Roma were in the race for Oosterwolde, and both clubs have now reached an agreement in principle. The Italian side is moving quickly to close the gap left by departing defenders.
Deal structure and financials
Under the agreement, the Italian club will loan Oosterwolde for one year with a mandatory purchase option. The total package is reported to cost around eighteen million euros.

After the loan period, the defender will be tied to AS Roma until mid‑2031, securing a long‑term solution for the squad.
Final steps and future commitment
Both parties are currently finalising the remaining formalities, after which a medical examination will be conducted. If the medical goes well, the loan with the compulsory buy‑out will be activated.
The move aligns with Gasperini’s strategic shift toward a more robust defensive setup, and the Italians hope Oosterwolde will integrate seamlessly into the Roma system.
