Roma eye Mbaye loan as Gasperini seeks attacking wingers
AS Roma move to secure a loan for 2008‑born Senegalese winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint‑Germain, the club hopes to add a new attacking option after finalising the Crysencio Summerville transfer with West Ham. Mbaye, who logged 155 minutes and scored once at the World Cup, faces stiff competition at PSG from Dembele, Barcola, Kvaratskhelia and Doué.
Gian Piero Gasperini was clear in his press conference that he is looking for two attacking wingers, even though the departure of Matias Soulé is far from a given. The Italian coach emphasised the need to refresh the wide areas of his side.
Among the players being monitored is PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye, the 2008‑born Senegalese talent locked into the French club. His profile fits the winger role Gasperini described, and the competition at PSG – Dembele, Barcola, Kvaratskhelia and Doué – makes a loan plausible.
Mbaye stood out during the World Cup with a stunning goal against France. He did not miss a single match, playing 155 minutes and netting one goal for Senegal.
Corriere dello Sport reports that Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur, Leipzig and Atlético Madrid are also monitoring the Senegalese winger, showing the breadth of interest across Europe.
The potential arrangement could be a loan with an option to buy for €25‑30 million, alongside a counter‑purchase option for PSG at €35‑40 million, giving both clubs financial flexibility.
In the French club’s last season, Mbaye recorded three goals and two assists in 30 games, totalling 1,152 minutes, of which 101 were in the Champions League, indicating experience at the highest level.
Roma’s activity does not stop with Mbaye; the club is finalising the deal for Crysencio Summerville with West Ham, underscoring a broader strategy to reinforce the attack.
If the loan materialises, Roma gain a versatile winger who can immediately impact their flanks while retaining the option to secure him permanently. For PSG, the move offers a chance to reduce squad congestion and potentially reap a future transfer fee, aligning with their broader squad management plans.
