Roma eye cheaper Frankfurt winger as Nusa price stalls
AS Roma are reportedly eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, with a potential fee of around €30 million, as a cheaper alternative to RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, according to the Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport. The move would give Il Giallorossi a forward option without the high price tag attached to the Norwegian international.
Roma’s interest had already been confirmed by the German tabloid Sport , which reported the Serie club’s serious pursuit of the attacker. The German source underscored the growing speculation around the transfer market for the winger.
At the same time, AS Roma retain a serious interest in RB Leipzig attacker Antonio Nusa, but Leipzig’s asking price of approximately €55 million – rising to €60 million in some reports – renders a summer transfer difficult for the Italian side.
Nusa, a Norwegian international, enhanced his reputation during the 2026 World Cup by scoring in Norway’s round‑of‑32 victory over Côte d’Ivoire, and his performances attracted interest from several major European clubs before the tournament.
Jean-Matteo Bahoya, a 21‑year‑old French winger, joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Angers for around €8 million in January 2024 and has quickly become one of the Bundesliga side’s most exciting attacking prospects. The winger’s first name, Matteo, is sometimes rendered without the accent, leading to the alternative spelling Jean‑Mattéo. He was clocked at 37.16 km/h during the 2024/25 campaign, setting a speed record that still stands.
Bahoya has spoken of feeling increasingly settled in Frankfurt, crediting the club’s French‑speaking contingent for helping him adapt, and he was selected as one of the players representing the club at an important pre‑season PR event.
Eintracht Frankfurt are said to value the 21‑year‑old at roughly €30 million, a sum that aligns with Roma’s budget and makes him a considerably more affordable option than Nusa. The German club’s model of developing young talent and selling for significant profit means an offer of that size could test its resolve.
No concrete offer for either attacker has yet been reported. If Leipzig’s demands remain high, Roma may intensify their pursuit of Bahoya as a more affordable alternative, while Frankfurt will have to decide whether to cash in on a player they have nurtured.
