Roma close on Malick Fofana deal, eyeing €35‑40 million fee
AS Roma have reached an agreement with 21‑year‑old Belgian winger Malick Fofana on Monday, setting up a summer transfer that could bring Lyon a fee of up to €40 million. The deal still requires a final settlement with the French club, which values the player between €35 million and €40 million.
Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement on Monday, citing the player’s age and position as key factors. The dello Sport reported Lyon’s asking price as ranging from €35 million to €40 million.
Negotiations and pending deals
Roma must now negotiate terms with Lyon, which is expected to demand a figure close to €40 million for the winger. The Italian side will only complete the transfer once it finalises the separate acquisition of Portuguese midfielder Rodrigo Mora from Porto.
While the Roma move is being finalised, Fofana remains with Paulo Fonseca’s squad that travelled to Istanbul for the Champions League first‑leg tie against Fenerbahçe on Tuesday at 21 h. The Belgian is listed among the travelling party.
The winger arrived at Lyon in the winter of 2024 after a €17 million transfer from La Gantoise. His move to the French club marked his first senior spell outside Belgium.
Fofana missed most of the 2025‑2026 season, featuring in only sixteen matches across all competitions due to a problematic right ankle that required two operations. The injury kept him away from the pitch for several months.
Last summer, the 21‑year‑old attracted interest from Olympique de Marseille, followed by approaches from Bayern Munich and Liverpool, though none materialised into a transfer.
He began the 2026‑2027 campaign by playing both legs of the Champions League third‑qualifying round against Sparta Prague on 4 August and 11 August. He entered the first match in the Czech Republic and started the return leg, displaying significant activity on the wing.
