Rogers enjoys break from Palmer as Tuchel fumes over England omission

Morgan Rogers said he is "all right having the break from him, to be honest" after Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer withdrew from the England squad, a move that left manager Thomas Tuchel frustrated. The 24‑year‑old, whose transfer to Chelsea was valued at £117 million, sees the pause as a chance to focus on his own form.

Palmer pulled out of the England camp citing a minor muscular complaint, meaning he missed the friendly against Spain at Wembley on Saturday. Rogers, who describes Palmer as a best friend and a constant presence on and off the pitch, joked that being around him 24‑7 can be "quite tough" and that a short break is "quite nice".

When asked to rate his start at Chelsea, Rogers gave a "10 out of 10". "I've enjoyed it, I'm happy, I'm feeling as good as I've ever felt playing, contributing, scoring, assisting, creating chances," he said, adding that the early weeks have been challenging but he "can't wait to get going and keep going".

The £117 million fee that made him the most expensive British player has raised expectations. Rogers admitted that "people are going to look at me differently" and that he will be judged on a "higher pedestal" because of the price tag.

He believes the move puts him in a better position to make a "bigger stamp on England games" and to become more important in the Three Lions' big matches. "I think I'm definitely in a better stead now to make a bigger stamp on England games," he asserted.

Rogers also spoke of his affection for Aston Villa, explaining that his decision to join Chelsea was driven by a desire to be seen as one of the best players in the Premier League and the world. "I need to play with the best players in the world and compete on a bigger stage," he said.

Declan Rice also missed the England camp, but Rogers stressed there is no bad blood after Rice's challenge during Arsenal’s 2‑1 win over Chelsea. "It's just competitors competing and wanting to win," he explained, noting that any tempers that rose were quickly resolved.
