Roger Schmidt of RB Leipzig eases Nagelsmann return rumors

In the ZDF Sports Studio, Roger Schmidt, the new global football chief of Red Bull, casts a cool glance at the rumor of Julian Nagelsmann returning to RB Leipzig. He emphasizes that they are “far from it” and that continuity in coaching positions at all locations is a priority.

Schmidt's Role at Red Bull

Roger Schmidt took up the position of global football chief at Red Bull on October 1st, succeeding Jürgen Klopp. In his role, he is to ensure continuity in the coaching position at all RB Leipzig locations. The 59‑year‑old emphasizes that transfers and personnel decisions are planned long‑term.

The new RB Leipzig coach, former Benfica manager Martin Demichelis, led the team to a convincing 6‑0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite this success, he has recorded only two wins in four Bundesliga matches and, with an average of 1.71 points over seven games, sits in the mid‑table.

Schmidt expressed his preference for the Argentine mentality and referred to his experience with Argentine players. “I like their mentality. They always go far in tournaments,” he said, highlighting that Demichelis embodies these qualities. For him, the Argentine style of play brings that certain something needed to win games.

Rumors about a possible return of Julian Nagelsmann are “normal nowadays,” Schmidt explained. He added that such topics have to be addressed in football when you lose two games. The media, including Sky, have indeed picked up the rumor, but there are no concrete talks yet.

Outlook on Upcoming Matches

After the win over Frankfurt, Schmidt urges the team to bounce back on Tuesday in the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven. He stresses that a victory is necessary because the first leg was lost. Further away matches against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also on the agenda, for which he sees great potential.

In the RB Leipzig forum, fans can discuss the latest transfers, video analyses and premium service offers in the community. The platform provides support, gaming features and all news from the Bundesliga. A comprehensive market‑value analysis is available to all members.
