Rodri Real Madrid dream stalls as Perez hesitates in summer

Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has signalled a desire to join Real Madrid, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s hesitation creates a major obstacle, leaving Manchester City’s midfield facing a looming gap as the World Cup‑winning Spaniard weighs his options for the upcoming season.

City have already secured Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, adding a versatile midfielder to their ranks. The club continue to hunt for an additional midfield signing, aware that Rodri’s departure would leave them short in the centre of the park.

Rodri shone at the World Cup, captaining Spain to their second title and being named player of the tournament. His performances have elevated him to possibly the most important player in Manchester City’s squad for the upcoming season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Rodri has a new contract proposal on the table from Manchester City. The decision now rests with Rodri, who could either accept the deal or remain at Man City for one more season before potentially leaving as a free agent in 2027.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez remains unconvinced about moving forward for Rodri. Perez’s current stance makes him the main obstacle, though he may reconsider in the summer or next year.

Given Perez’s hesitation, a move this summer appears unlikely, and City are expected to keep Rodri for at least another year. The club are also planning a third midfield signing should Rodri eventually depart.

The situation stays fluid, with any shift in Perez’s view capable of reshaping both clubs’ transfer strategies.
