Rio Ferdinand urges Carrick to keep £40m Rashford at Man Utd
At the Manchester United training ground, former defender Rio Ferdinand, captured in a Getty picture, urged teammate Michael Carrick to stop a £40 million exit for winger Marcus Rashford, insisting the 28‑year‑old looks like a purring Ferrari in pre‑season drills for Utd.
Ferdinand told his YouTube audience, “Rashford is back at Manchester United at the training ground and guys, he’s like a purring Ferrari man,” adding that the winger appears fit and smiling. He pressed Carrick to block any move that could see the star leave this summer.
Rashford’s future remains uncertain after his season‑long loan with the Catalan giants Barcelona ended. Although the 28‑year‑old publicly wanted to stay, Barcelona opted to chase Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon instead.
Pre‑season training and upcoming friendly
Back from loan, Rashford has rejoined United’s pre‑season programme and could feature in the Wednesday friendly against Leeds United. The former England international is expected to train alongside the Red Devils as they prepare for the new campaign.
Ferdinand admitted, “We don’t know which way this is going to pan out by the end of the transfer window, but I hope he stays and he will be like a new signing at the football club.” He suggested the striker could prove doubters wrong with a strong start.
Turning to other targets, Ferdinand urged United to “press the green button” for Arsenal teenager Myles Lewis‑Skelly, estimating a price of £60m‑£70m. He praised the player’s versatility, saying he could fill multiple positions and has the right mentality.
Addressing the left‑back spot, Ferdinand noted that Luke Shaw covered most of the role last season, while Patrick Dorgu now plays more as a left‑winger and both Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are not natural left‑backs, leaving room for a signing like Lewis‑Skelly.
