Richarlison left out of Tottenham squad as he eyes Turkey move
Richarlison, the 29‑year‑old Brazilian, has been axed from Tottenham’s Premier League squad, with one year left on his contract and an option for a further year, and is now being linked with a move to Turkey, where the transfer window closes on Friday.
Tottenham’s valuation and bid stance
Spurs have yet to receive a bid they consider acceptable for the wantaway striker. They have valued Richarlison at £35 million, a figure that sits alongside a £65 million deal they arranged with Everton for Iliman Ndiaye. Any offers from Turkey have so far been rejected.
Roberto De Zerbi told Richarlison he is not part of his plans for the season before the Premier League transfer deadline on Tuesday. The striker received the news shortly before the deadline, confirming his exclusion from the squad.
Roberto De Zerbi said on Saturday the former Watford and Everton striker had asked ‘too many times’ to leave. His comments underscored the breakdown in negotiations between player and club.
Spurs confirmed their Premier League squad on Thursday, naming Xavi Simons despite a serious knee injury that is expected to keep him out until next year. Wilson Odobert, also out with a serious knee injury, was included as a homegrown player.
Earlier this week Richarlison posted an Instagram picture bearing the slogan ‘I am the villain of many poorly told stories’. He added that if Spurs and Everton reached an agreement he would return to his beloved club, noting that negotiations had stalled. The trade talk involved Iliman Ndiaye, who ultimately signed for Manchester City on deadline day.
Turkey as the next destination
The Turkish transfer market closes on Friday, and Richarlison is understood to be keen to join Mohamed Salah and Fabinho at Trabzonspor. Reports from Turkey claim terms have been agreed and bids made, although Spurs have rejected any such offers. By leaving him out of the squad, Tottenham have renewed pressure on Trabzonspor to finalise a deal.
Richarlison remains under contract with Spurs and will be available to the club should a move not materialise. The story was reported by MATT BARLOW, FOOTBALL WRITER, on 3 September 2026.
