Rice hints at new Arsenal deal as Arteta signs extension
Declan Rice arrived at Arsenal from West Ham in 2023 for a club‑record £105 million fee, cementing his status as one of the Premier League’s most expensive signings.
Why Arsenal paid a record fee for Rice
The England international has been a cornerstone of the Gunners’ resurgence under Mikel Arteta, helping the side lift the Premier League title last season.
His influence has continued despite the emergence of Myles Lewis‑Skelly and the summer acquisition of Bruno Guimaraes, with the 27‑year‑old still featuring among Arteta’s first‑name choices.
Rice’s blend of defensive solidity and midfield drive remains vital as Arsenal aim to build on their recent success.

Contract talks and what lies ahead
Rice’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028, but negotiations for an extension are already under way.
Speaking about his future, Rice said: “Yeah, of course. I think for sure, I’ve been so happy playing for Arsenal over the last few years. It’s probably the happiest I’ve been playing football, so yeah, it’s been amazing and the journey has been great so far. Last year, obviously winning the Premier League was one of the happiest moments of my career. So yeah, for sure, let’s continue this.”
Captain Martin Odegaard, who is also expected to start new‑deal talks, added ahead of Saturday’s game against Leeds: “During the international break we had the news that the boss has signed a new contract and that’s given everyone here such a lift. What he’s done so far is unbelievable, so to see him committing to being here for even longer is a big push for everyone.”
Should Rice sign a fresh deal, Arsenal will retain a high‑profile English midfielder while Arteta’s continued presence provides the stability the club has prized since his appointment.
