RFC Liège receives eight million euros for its 8,000‑seat stadium
In the heart of Rocourt, RFC Liège has just received the green light for its future stadium. The Walloon Region has allocated eight million euros to the intermunicipal Ecetia to fund the Wallonia Sport Park, a complex that will include an 8 000‑seat arena intended for the Sang & Marine.

The intermunicipal Ecetia will therefore receive this eight‑million‑euro subsidy for the construction of the Wallonia Sport Park. The project includes not only the new arena, but also offices, hospitality spaces and other ancillary facilities.
Jean‑Paul Lacomble, an iconic figure of RFC Liège, said at the pre‑season press conference: “We are not only preparing a stadium project, but an entire ecosystem. For this project, we are trying to secure a public‑private partnership that would be beneficial to every Liège resident, in the sociological sense of the term.”
The club will be able to take possession of the grounds owned by the City of Liège, located right next to the Rue de la Tonne stadium. The complex will also aim to host international rugby competitions thanks to specific standards.
Location and facilities
The project relies on a collaboration with the University of Liège and the University Hospital Center, including a sports rehabilitation clinic and a movement analysis laboratory. These facilities will strengthen the multidisciplinary character of the Wallonia Sport Park.
The new stadium will have 8 000 seats, including 5 000 seated places, complemented by offices, hospitality spaces and other facilities that could serve the Les Ardentes festival.
The intermunicipal Ecetia must provide the Minister for Sports Infrastructure Jacqueline Galant with the details outlining the administrative and financial setup of the project. This step is crucial to validate the envisaged public‑private partnership.
According to Sudinfo, RFC Liège’s Matricule 4 received the green light earlier this week, a step deemed essential to achieve the dream of a return to the First Division A. The club believes that the new arena and development at all levels, including non‑sporting ones, are crucial to this ambition.
This announcement represents a major step forward for the Sang & Marine, who see the Wallonia Sport Park as a true engine of dynamism for the city and its inhabitants.
