René Wagner, head coach of Cologne, insists 22‑year‑old forward Said El Mala remains fully focused as the club heads to a pre‑season camp in Austria, despite a growing Premier League chase and a €50 million minimum price tag set by the German side.

Cologne have set a €50 million minimum price for El Mala, a figure that underscores the club’s valuation of the 22‑year‑old forward. The price follows his maiden Bundesliga season in which he recorded 13 goals and five assists.

Wagner highlighted the youngster’s daily commitment to the team despite ongoing exit talks. “He doesn’t give any player or staff member the impression that his mind is elsewhere,” the coach said.

Wagner described El Mala as “a Cologne player” who presents himself that way every day. He added that the midfielder’s professionalism sets a standard for the squad.

Premier League clubs, alongside Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, have shown considerable interest in the 22‑year‑old. Wagner acknowledged the attention but stressed that the player remains focused on his current duties.

He highlighted the forward’s defensive work rate as evidence of his all‑round contribution. “Said throws himself into every challenge,” Wagner noted.

Wagner explained that any future negotiations will be handled after the camp, emphasizing that the squad are all adults. “We’re all adults here… right now, Said is here at training, and he’ll be here for the next few weeks as things stand,” he said.

The hefty €50 million tag may prove a stumbling block for Borussia Dortmund, who have been linked with the player. If Karim Adeyemi’s transfer to Barcelona is confirmed, Cologne could reinvest a portion of that fee to pursue El Mala.
