Red Devil Raskin's turbulent summer ends without a transfer

The 25‑year‑old Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin, who shone for Rangers this season and impressed at the World Cup with the Red Devils, experienced a turbulent summer full of rumours. Premier‑League clubs, Atalanta, Real Betis, Hull City and the Turkish Besiktas showed interest, but he stayed in Glasgow.

Great interest from European clubs

Rangers received several approaches over the summer. According to British sources, Hull City had made a bid, but the Scottish club held out for a considerably higher valuation. In addition to the English club, Atalanta, Real Betis and later Fenerbahçe and Besiktas were mentioned as potential buyers.

The Turkish Besiktas announced formal interest in Rangers in early September, but STV News reported that no agreement was reached. While the talks continued, Raskin remained in Rangers’ squad and missed a few competitive matches in August due to the ongoing rumours.

Rangers manager Derek McInnes praised Raskin for his professional attitude and stressed that the midfielder continues to train excellently. Despite the transfer saga, he remained fully committed to the club, which McInnes said is crucial for the season.

The 25‑year‑old spoke openly about the events during the international break. “It was a complicated summer. There were talks about transfers, but in the end nothing materialised,” he said. “I’m not going to cry about it. That’s football,” he added, referring to the Red Devils. After two training sessions the Red Devils saw the big difference between Garcia and Van Bommel.

Raskin confirmed that his ambition to move up was no secret, but he acknowledged that a transfer depends on many factors. “There are a great many things that have to be taken into account and everything must line up at the right moment. That wasn’t the case now,” he said.

The contrasts between the high expectations and the eventual outcome show that even an outstanding World Cup performance does not guarantee an immediate move. Raskin now focuses on further development at Rangers, with an eye on future opportunities.
