Rebecca Knaak: Injury concerns threaten City appearance
Rebecca Knaak has to sit out for Manchester City initially due to an ankle injury. The 30‑year‑old international in the DFB jersey will not be available for the team in the Women's Super League on Sunday evening, and her possible participation in a match for FC Bayern is also in doubt.
As the team from the English Women's Super League announced on Sunday evening, the injury occurred in the friendly against Manchester United. City did not disclose a precise diagnosis or an expected recovery period.
Whether Knaak can take part in the Champions League opener on September 22 against the German champions Bayern Munich remains uncertain. Her participation in that match is still unclear.
Knaak's Path to Manchester City
Knaak has been playing for Manchester City since January 2025. In the pre‑season she won the double with the club and counts DFB teammates Sydney Lohmann and, more recently, Carlotta Wamser among her colleagues.
In a statement it said she will “work together with the club’s medical team on her recovery.”
For the German national team the uncertainty poses a problem, as Knaak is an established defender in the DFB squad.
The contrasting outlooks – City will have to manage without her, while Bayern hopes for her return – highlight how much the ankle injury impacts the schedules of both teams.
