Real Madrid target Serie A star to replace Alaba after his exit

Real Madrid are looking to plug a left‑sided centre‑back gap after David Alaba’s summer exit, aiming to add a second defender alongside Ibrahima Konate, who arrived from Liverpool at the start of the month, while Jose Mourinho seeks a fresh option for the 2026‑27 campaign.

Real Madrid need a left‑sided centre‑back after David Alaba left earlier this summer. The club already have Ibrahima Konate, who arrived from Liverpool at the start of the month, but Mourinho wants another option for the 2026‑27 season.

Their primary target is Alessandro Bastoni, the Inter Milan and Italy defender. Mourinho, who previously coached at Inter, regards him as the ideal final piece for his defensive options.

According to Bastoni’s agent, speaking to Diario AS, there is a desire to make a move happen in 2026, yet no urgent push to leave the Nerazzurri.

“Bastoni has two years left on his contract with Inter, he loves these colours and right now he is not considering signing for another club. If in the future a club appeared that satisfied both Inter and the player, we could talk about it, but right now there is nothing concrete to suggest a real negotiation. I don’t think he has ever considered leaving Italy,” the agent said.

Real Madrid plan to sign the second central defender this summer to join Konate, and Mourinho wants another player to choose from when the 2026‑27 season gets underway next month.

The sporting department would need to make a serious effort to agree terms with Inter in the coming weeks, but it remains to be seen whether Madrid and Mourinho can secure Bastoni, while the club continues to focus on outgoing transfers.
