Real Madrid rebukes La Liga president's remarks as irresponsible
Real Madrid released an official statement on the 22nd after La Liga president Javier Tebas made public comments, denouncing his remarks as wholly inappropriate and irresponsible. The club had just suffered a 1‑2 defeat to Atletico Madrid on the 20th, and had previously argued that Atletico players should have been sent off.
In the post‑match press conference, manager Jose Mourinho echoed the club’s view, insisting that the referee’s decisions had disadvantaged Real and that the Atletico players ought to have received red cards.
Tebas replied that Madrid’s loss was not caused by any officiating error but by the team’s own performance, rejecting the suggestion that the decision‑making was at fault.
The club’s website now states that Tebas is using his public platform to repeatedly attack Real Madrid, a behaviour it deems unacceptable and damaging to the reputation of Spanish football.
