Real Madrid poised to outbid rivals for teenage prodigy Gabriel
Real Madrid have signalled a willingness to meet the demands of 16‑year‑old Man United forward JJ Gabriel, whose future at Old Trafford has become uncertain after he asked for his registration to be cancelled. The Spanish giants are positioned to strengthen their long‑term attacking options as European heavyweights circle the teenager.
Reports place Real Madrid among the frontrunners to secure Gabriel, noting that Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint‑Germain are also monitoring the situation. The Spanish club’s interest is described as a promising opportunity to add a highly rated prospect to their ranks.
Gabriel and his representatives submitted a request on 15 September to cancel his Manchester United registration, citing frustration over limited first‑team chances. Manchester United have declined the request, keeping the youngster under contract.
Financial package
Bernabeu Digital the potential transfer could involve a fee of around €15 million, while the player’s camp is demanding a salary of at least €1 million per year. Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg adds that the salary figure translates to roughly £850 000 or $1.12 million. notes that, should the move fall through, a Professional Football Compensation Committee could award Manchester United a fee in excess of £3 million plus a 20 percent sell‑on clause.
Development plan
Real Madrid are reportedly considering a gradual integration, allowing Gabriel to begin with the club’s reserve side while training intermittently with the first team. This approach would give the teenager time to adapt to a new environment before competing for a regular senior place.
Rival interest
Chelsea have also entered the race, with sources saying the Blues have presented a compelling offer despite the teenager’s preference for an overseas move. Bayern Munich held talks in Munich on 5 May, yet the German side remains sceptical because of Gabriel’s ‘XXL’ financial demands, including a signing‑on fee deemed exorbitant. Barcelona remain in contention, and Paris Saint‑Germain are described as lurking in the background. The competition spans clubs across Europe, underscoring the teenager’s continent‑wide appeal.
Gabriel is eligible for an EU passport through his parents and is currently finalising a Cypriot passport, which is expected to be completed within days, enabling a formal move in January.
Jose Mourinho, appointed as Real Madrid manager in the summer of 2026, is overseeing the club’s pursuit of the teenager, although no official comment has been recorded.
Manchester United have offered Gabriel an official scholarship contract, meaning any Premier League suitor must negotiate a fee directly with the club., under FIFA’s Category I academy rules, United would receive around £350 000 if the player moves abroad.
Despite Real Madrid’s readiness to satisfy both the player’s and Manchester United’s demands, the transfer remains far from certain as the clubs weigh the financial and sporting implications.
