Real Madrid and Barcelona chase Liverpool midfielder as €100m looms

Real Madrid and Barcelona are closely monitoring Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, whose €100 million summer‑2025 signing now sits amid growing uncertainty. The 23‑year‑old German international’s market value has slipped, no formal bids have emerged, and the Spanish giants are among four European clubs eyeing a possible move.

European clubs monitoring Wirtz

Reports from Spain confirm that Real Madrid and Barcelona are two of four major European clubs tracking the 23‑year‑old, with English side Chelsea and German champions Bayern Munich also on the list.

The attacking midfielder, praised for his technique and creativity, could provide a valuable addition to either Spanish side should a chance to sign him arise.

Liverpool's stance and declining valuation

Liverpool, who invested more than €100 million to secure Wirtz in the summer of 2025, have made clear they are not currently looking to part with the former Bayer Leverkusen star.

His debut season yielded five goals and eight assists, yet early displays in the 2026/27 campaign have fallen short of expectations, prompting a drop in his reported market valuation.

Chelsea may hold an advantage, as manager Xabi Alonso previously worked with Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen, a partnership that delivered the Bundesliga title in 2024.

Bayern Munich have long admired the German playmaker and could attempt to bring him back to his home country.

Wirtz remains under contract until June 2030, and to date no club has lodged a confirmed formal offer, leaving any transfer far from certain.

It remains to be seen whether he can rediscover his best form at Anfield or if Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Bayern Munich will mount a serious bid in 2027.
