Real Madrid adds Nadal to board, fusing tennis fame with leadership

Former world No 1 Rafael Nadal will become a director on Real Madrid’s board of directors, the club announced on Wednesday via an official statement, with the Board having met on 4 November to submit his appointment as a board member for ratification.

Board appointment details

The club posted the announcement on its official website, formalising the entry of one of sport’s biggest figures into management. The Board of Directors, known as the Junta Diretiva, met on 4 November and decided to present the nomination to the General Assembly of Representative Members. Nadal is registered as club member number 67,778 and already holds honorary membership.

Nadal’s sporting pedigree was highlighted in the statement, which praised him as one of the greatest legends of sport and one of Spain’s most admired athletes. His record comprises 92 individual titles, including 22 Grand Slam victories, two Olympic gold medals and five Davis Cup triumphs with Spain. The club also underscored his personal qualities such as talent, perseverance, sacrifice, competitiveness, humility, respect and solidarity.

Through his social media, Nadal thanked president Florentino Pérez and the board, accepted the role with great enthusiasm and said he is eager to learn and contribute as much as possible. At 40 years old, Nadal has long been a lifelong supporter of Real Madrid. The General Assembly must still approve the appointment, though the club expects the vote to be a formality. If ratified, Nadal will sit on the board and help shape the present and future of Real Madrid.

The Com will also oversee the process, reinforcing the club’s governance structure. This addition is seen as a heavyweight reinforcement for the club’s administration in the coming weeks.
