Real delivers mass documents to UEFA in Negreira case vs Barcellona

UEFA has confirmed that it has received from Real Madrid CF a substantial amount of documents relating to the ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona, linked to the Negreira case involving José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice‑president of the Spanish Referees' Technical Committee.

Delivered documentation and recipients

In addition to the Technical Committee, UEFA's ethical and disciplinary inspectors have also received the same documentation, whose assessment will be incorporated into the analysis currently underway. Real emphasized the importance of a swift conclusion to the inquiry, hoping for appropriate decisions based on the seriousness of the facts.

Context of the accusation against Barcelona

The accusation leveled at the Catalan club concerns payments made to José María Enríquez Negreira from 2016 to 2018, amounting to €500,000 per year. Barcelona has always maintained that these sums were paid for consultancy services, not to influence the refereeing system.

The proceedings against FC Barcelona were launched in 2023, with the appointment of two investigators who have since carried out the actions deemed appropriate. The club has always complied with all the investigators' requests.

Despite the delivery of the documents, UEFA has not initiated any new proceedings nor reopened the existing one, as it has never been closed. The statement specifies that there is no assessment of the content or the value of the documentation provided.

At present, the investigators have not made any new requests to Barcelona nor have they forwarded Real's complaint to the club. Should they do so, Barcelona has said it will respond as it has always done.

The proceedings remain contingent on the outcome of the criminal trial currently underway in Spain and will continue to depend on that result.

In the meantime, FC Barcelona has continued to obtain its UEFA licence without objections and to compete in European competitions, demonstrating that its sporting activity has not been disrupted by the matter.
